When you come to Bali, you can also visit spiritual sites. But the spiritual tour you will visit this time is a little different. Not a spiritual tour to Pura which is the main tourist attraction in Bali, but you will visit the tombs of the ancestor who spread Islam in Bali. It’s called Buyut Lebai Sacred Tomb in Jembrana.

The Sacred Tomb of Buyut Lebai

If you are in Jembrana, take your time to visit the the sacred tomb of Buyut Lebai. This tomb is located in Jl Gunungagung, Loloan Timur Village, Negara District, Jembrana Regency. If you drive from Denpasar to Loloan Village, the distance is approximately 90 km. But if you drive from Gilimanuk Port, the distance is only around 25 km.

Almost all Muslim Jembrana residents live in Loloan Village. Therefore, this village offers unique tourist attractions to visit, such as the sacred tomb of Buyut Lebai. Who is Buyut Lebai? Buyut Lebai is a great scholar from Sarawak, Malaysia. He came to the State, Jembrana in 1675. It was told that the scholar, along with several Muslim leaders who came from South Sulawesi, had a good relation with the Jembrana ruler at that time, I Gusti Arya Pancoran.

Thanks to their good relations, the ruler later allowed Buyut Lebai to introduce Islam to Loloan through preaching. This teaching uses Malay as the language of instruction. Which later caused almost all residents of Loloan Village to speak Malay until today. So, don't be surprised. You will hear languages that are slightly different from the people. Even the use of the Balinese language also mixes with Malay.

Islamic teachings then developed in the country because of the scholar. The local residents then considered Buyut Lebai as an important figure. So, his tomb is often visited for pilgrimage. Because the pilgrims who came also came from Malaysia, this tomb was then opened to the public. Visitors who come here usually come to pray for the cleric. There are so many facilities that make this place comfortable for the visitors. Such as parking areas, toilets, and special places for wudhu (ablution).

You can come at any time to make a pilgrimage, but the best time will be during Ramadan. At this time, Muslims are fasting. So usually in the afternoon, the local residents sell takjil (some kind of desert to break the fast). You can also eat the tasty food like kopyor ice and pecel. Don't forget to use closed clothes when visiting!
