5 Memorable Days in Klungkung Regency

1. Klungkung Palace

Klungkung Palace or better known as Puri Agung Semarapura, was formerly a residence of the Klungkung royal family. Most of the palace buildings were destroyed after being attacked by the Dutch in 1908. However, we can still be entertained by some heritage buildings such as the former court buildings and the Kherta Gosa pavilion. Tourists who visit here will see the silent witnesses of the history of Klungkung Regency through these buildings. Around the palace there are local souvenir shops. This Palace can be visited every day from 10:00 until 17:00 (at local time). Klungkung Palace is located on Diponegoro Street, Semarapura Kangin (East Semarapura), Klungkung Regency.

2. Kherta Gosa

Actually, the Gili Kerta Gosa Park building is still becoming part of Klungkung Palace. Kherta Gosa has two main buildings. First is Bale Kherta Gosa, a large building in which the ceiling is depicted of Kamasan style puppets. Another building is Bale Kambang, it was built up in the middle of a large fish pond. Built in a unique Balinese architectural style, this building is a must visit for the tourists and remember to take pictures with the amazing historical site as background. Near the Kherta Gosa parking area, there is an art market and gift shops that sells clothes, gold and silver jewelries, puppet paintings and woven items. Kherta Gosa is located on Jl. Kenanga No.11, Semarapura Kelod. Kherta Gosa is 45 km away from Ngurah Rai airport and 34 km away from Denpasar city.

3. Puputan Monument

Nearby Klungkung Palace, precisely, the opposite of the palace, there is the Puputan Monument. Puputan Klungkung Monument was built to commemorate the services of the heroes and royal knights of Klungkung against the attacked of Dutch colonialism in the colonial era. Puputan Klungkung Monument is a memorial to the historic day of Puputan Klungkung which happened on Tuesday April 28, 1908. Around the area of this monument was the location of a brave fighting of Klungkung soldiers with their King to their last blood drop (puput, a Balinese term means a mass suicide during the war) against the Dutch colonizers. This place is suitable as a means of historical education because the war events are described in detail through small human replicas placed on glass boxes along the walls of the monument building (diorama). This monument is open every day from every day from 10:00 until 17:00 (at local time).

4. Semarajaya Museum

Semarajaya Museum has a collection of ancient objects from the descendants of the Kings of Klungkung from the first King I Dewa Agung Jambe to King Dewa Agung Cokorda Gede Agung Semaraputra. There is also a songket exhibition inside the musem. Songket is a traditional Klungkung fabric. There are also illustrations of moving pictures about Puputan in 1908 and photographs of royal family members.

Goa Lawah Temple is a unique temple because it is located inside Goa Lawah. Goa Lawah itself is a cave inhabited by thousands of bats. Here, you will see the bats flying or hanging on the cave. Goa Lawah Temple is located in Pesinggahan Village, Dawan Sub-district. This temple is 10 km away from east of Semarapura city and 50 km away from the city of Denpasar.

2. Kamasan Tourism Village

Kamasan Tourism Village is only 4 km away from the city of Semarapura. This village is famous for typical Balinese puppets paintings. In this village, tourists can visit painting galleries in local people's home because most of the villagers open their own painting galleries. Kamasan Tourism Village is 1.5 km from Semarapura city, 42 km from Ngurah Rai Airport, and 32 km from Denpasar city.

3. Nyoman Gunarsa Museum

Nyoman Gunarsa is a famous artist in Indonesia. His museum exhibits classical and contemporary Balinese art works in the form of paintings, stone and wood carvings, masks and puppets all created by Nyoman Gunarsa himself. The museum is located 4 km from the west of the city of Semarapura. The museum is open from 09:00 until 16:00 (at local time).

After taking a walk on land, it's time to enjoy the beauty of Klungkung Beach on Nusa Lembongan Island. Dream Beach, for example. Dream Beach is a white sand beach with crystal clear sea water. However, the waves of this beach are quite big, tourists should be extra careful if they want to swim here. Beside swimming, sunbathing while enjoying the beautiful nature on the beach is a perfect activity to do. To reach Nusa Lembongan island, tourists can take a ferry or speedboat with a travel time of about 35 minutes from Benoa Harbour or Sanur Beach.

Bursts of waves that hit the rock creates a reflection of light that forms the magical rainbow colors. Along this beach there are many bays that are suitable for tourists to explore. This beach is also one of the best spots on Nusa Lembongan to witness the amazing sunset.

Angel's Billabong located in Nusa Penida island is a spectacular rock formation on the cliff edges added with the view of beautiful turquoise sea water. Because of its clear turquoise water, tourists can see through the coral under the sea. Tourists can freely swim and feel directly how amazing this beach is. But, tourists have to take steep roads and sharp rocks to get to Angel's Billabong. Because it's still very natural, there aren't too many public facilities available on this beach. Tourists are advised to bring their own food because there is no food stall around the Angel's Billabong area.

This beach is also well known as the Uug Beach. On this beach, there is a 50-200 meter high cliff with a hole in the center of it so it is shaped like a cave or tunnel that the sea water can flow in and out from the ocean. Kelingking Beach is a hidden beach located 400 meters below a steep cliff. From the top of the cliff, tourists can see how stunning the combination of blue sky, white sand beach, and crystal clear sea water are in which directly can refresh your eyes and reassure the heart. On this beach there is also spotted a curve of a unique coral cliff that naturally forms as a T-Rex neck. Kelingking Beach also has the best site for diving, seeing the beauty of underwater biota called Manta Point.

2. Atuh Beach

Atuh Beach Nusa Penida is one of the most visited beaches by tourists in the Nusa Penida Bali area. Here, tourists can enjoy four magnificent coral islands, namely Batu Melawang or Pepadasan Island, Batu Paon Island, Batu Abah Island and Bukit Jineng Island. These coral islands are the main attractions in Atuh Beach Nusa Penida. On the white sand beach, tourists can relax while sunbathing or just playing the sand. The water is also very clear so that when it is low tide, the beauty of the underwater biota will transparantly be seen.

Please keep in mind to bring rupiah in cash because there is no money changer especially around Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa Ceningan areas. The means of transportation in the three islands are also inadequate, so it is recommended that you rent a vehicle to go around with your traveling companion.
