Full-body movements are part of religious rituals. Have you ever seen a dance performance in Bali? Every dance has different meanings. In general, Hindu communities distinguish types of dances for ceremonies and for entertainment. The dance for the ceremony is only performed during the ceremony and is not performed for entertainment.

One of the dances that were performed during the ceremony was Baris Gede Dance. This dance is played by adult men. The number of dancers is two to tens. It depends on what symbol you want to represent with Tari Baris Gede. For example, the Baris Gede dance is performed by 9 dancers who symbolize the direction of the wind. Interesting right? Every symbol that is related to human relations, nature and God is established through dance.

Not only a symbol of the number of dancers. The Baris Gede dancers are also considered to be the accompaniment of the Gods. So it was danced by many people because of the background of that belief.

The dancers carry weapons while dancing. Weapons such as spears, shields and chakras. Well, the clothes worn by dancers are all the same, the difference is the weapons that are carried. The weapon carried by the dancer depends on what symbol you want to describe at the ceremony that was held. The dance movement is full of energy, so the dancers must have good stamina when dancing. Shoulders that reflect the toughness of the soldier are always accompanied by eye movements. Eye movements also have meaning, which is a sign that the eye is alert.
