Blanjong Inscription, Cultural Heritage With High Historical Value.

The island of Bali is indeed special. Not only provides the beauty of nature, but also a wealth of history and culture. One that cannot be missed to visit is the Blanjong Inscription. Located in Banjar Blanjong, Sanur Kauh Village, this inscription is the oldest written history of Bali from 835 caka or 913 AD. This inscription is issued by Raja Sri Kesari Warmadewa, so of course it’s a cultural heritage with high historical value.

This cultural heritage of Bali is also designated as a cultural preserve of Denpasar by the Mayor of Denpasar, I.B Rai Dharmawijaya Mantra. Through a decree Number 188.45 / 825 / HK / 2019 On April 15, 2019, this determination is the first thing that the Regional Government has done for cultural heritage. With the existence of the Blanjong inscription as a cultural heritage object, the preservation of this Balinese heritage will certainly be well maintained.

Blanjong Inscription is an inscription made of stone, like a lotus flower-shaped pillar. The size is quite large, which is as high as 177 cm with a diameter of 62 cm. On both sides, there are sculpted inscriptions. On the northwest side, you can see six lines of writing that use the Pre-Negari letters that commonly used in North India, and the Bali Kuna language. While on the southeast side, there are 13 lines of writing using Balinese Kuna (Kawi) and Sanskrit letters.

Reportedly, judging from its contents and languages, this inscription portrays the politics and science situation at that time. Because usually, inscriptions in Bali only use Sanskrit with the Pre Negari letters, or the Bali Kuna language with Kawi letters. Based on this fact, we can see that the author of Sangasti Blanjong (citralekha) is proficient in language.

While the political side can be seen from the contents of the inscription. It is said that the king has succeeded in defeating enemies in the Desert and Swal. From this information, it can be indicated that the king's power is quite extensive.

It's exciting, isn’t it! Let's study history at the Blanjong Inscription, so that traditional culture isn’t gone from the community.
