According to the Balinese, Nasi Jinggo was first sold on Jalan Gajah Mada, Denpasar, in the 1980s. At that place, there was a market called Kumbasari which was always open for 24 hours. So there are many people come there to buy food at night. Today, Nasi Jinggo sellers have spread throughout the city of Denpasar, such as on Jalan Thamrin and Jalan Ponorogo. In fact, this food menu can also be found in other areas, such as Kuta and Badung Regency.

At first glance, Nasi Jinggo is similar to nasi kucing. So, what makes this food special and popular?. Nasi Jinggo is white or yellow rice mixed with side dishes and sambal, which are wrapped with banana leaves with various side dishes, such as sambal goreng tempe, serundeng, and also shredded chicken. Now, there are also some innovative Nasi Jinggo sellers, who add eggs and fried noodles to the rice. Even though it's no longer “jinggo”, the price of this food menu is still cheap: only Rp. 5,000.

Today there are a lot of side dishes you can choose for your Nasi Jinggo, but there is only one characteristic flavor: super spicy sambal. This spicy sambal is made from garlic, shallots, shrimp paste, and also cayenne pepper.
