Charming scenery in Bukit Putung

One that worth to discuss is Bukit Putung. Located in Duda Timur Village, Selat Sub-district, Karangasem Regency, it is about 65 km from Ngurah Rai Airport with a distance of 2 hours driving. While from Karangasem it is about 19 km. If you depart from Denpasar, the distance is around 52 km travel time or about 1 hour 27 minutes in smooth traffic conditions.

In Balinese, putung means finished over or having no children referring to the origin of the name Desa Putung. According to the local residents, there was a magician who was killed by local residents. However, before he died the magician condemned all the inhabitants in his village's dead, so that the villagers could not have children. Another story says, initially this area was named Desa Leteh, but suddenly, many of the villager were infected with epidemics and bodies were neglected. More over, the residents were increasingly negligent towards customary regulations, causing the neighborhood traditional village decided to cut ties with Leteh Village and the village was renamed as Desa Putung.

Desa Putung was the tourism icon of Karangasem in the 1980s. The Italian painter came and painted the village of Putung very beautifully. After that, this village started becoming famous to foreign countries. Desa Putung has a small gazebo situated on a hill, you can use it as a spot to get the view of the magical mountains and the blue sea from the top. Besides, it can be reached by using a vehicle. So, you don't need to be tired of walking to the top.
