Unique Tradition In Bali: Establish A Friendship With Mecacar In Cempaga Village.

All villages in Bali have their own unique tradition. Simplicity in traditional activities can establish friendship among its citizens. For example, in Cempaga Village. This village, which is considered to be an ancient Balinese village, has a tradition that takes place before the religious holiday. Such as Galungan, Kuningan, and Karya Agung Muayon ceremonies.

The tradition to establish friendship is called the Mecacar Tradition. Mecacar means making offerings consisting of Balinese specialties. Among others are white rice, urap barak, white urap, jejeruk, and lawar. The time of performance is also special, you know. The Mecacar tradition takes place after midnight or at 1:00 a.m. at the Krama Hall and Balai Truna in the Village Temple.

To carry out this tradition, the residents prepare all the necessities since morning. Starting from preparing the ingredients required in food processing. Traditional Balinese culture in cooking requires firewood, coconut, and banana leaves. So, they prepare the cooking needs before they start cutting pork. In Mecacar, not everyone can be appointed to cut pigs. Only residents who have been handed down from generation to generation have the authority to slaughter the pigs. Pigs will later be made into several dishes. Such as lawar manca warna, urutan, satay, and so on. Now, in the process of cooking the pigs, not all krama or residents are allowed to taste it. Only selected people can taste the food.

After the preparation is complete, at night, the women or wives will bring all the completeness of the tradition. For the purposes of Mecacar, the food that has been processed all day is brought to the Village Temple. At around 1:00 a.m., the village representatives will give a sign. Kulkul will be beaten three times as a sign that the villagers must gather immediately. At that time, they will enjoy eating offerings together.

With this tradition, the relationship between residents will be maintained. After eating the food, the chat will enliven the atmosphere. Cempaga Village is located in Banjar District, Buleleng Regency. It’s located in the mountains, so the air is definitely cold and fresh. It’s only 12 minutes away from the Singsing Waterfall.
