Lake Buyan is located in Pancasari Village, Sukasada Sub-district. The distance from Ngurah Rai Airport to Lake Buyan is around 73km. It takes around 2 hours and 20 minutes with smooth road conditions. Meanwhile, if you depart from Ubud, the distance to Lake Buyan is around 51 km.
This beautiful lake is one of three twin lakes formed in a caldera. It is also the biggest lake out of the two lakes nearby. Surrounded by tropical forests, on the west side there is Lake Tamblingan, whereas the east side is directly adjacent to Lake Beratan. Uniquely, in between Lake Buyan and Lake Tamblingan you can see a pond that connects them through a narrow canal. Locals call it Telaga Aya.
The depth of Lake Buyan currently reaches 60 meters and is at an altitude of 1,350 metres above sea level. No wonder, the air around the lake feels cold, especially at night. If your are a trekking lover, tropical forests surround Lake Buyan are often used for outing and trekking. Besides, if you like fishing, around the lake, rental fishing equipment is provided along with the bait. Another activity can be done in this lake is admiring its beauty by using a wooden boat which is rented by locals surround the lake.
You can also enjoy Lake Buyan from the high. Go up to the nearest hill and choose a beautiful photo spot as a background. One of the most visited is a photo spot shaped like a boat made of bamboo. Tourists call this spot the name "Titanic" because it resembles the pointed Titanic deck. Photographer services are also available if you want a more satisfying portrait result.
Camping around the hills of Lake Buyan is highly recommended. Bring warm clothes since the weather is cold in this area. Around Lake Buyan, there are some adequate facilities such as food stalls and public toilets.
