Tracing The Footprint Of Klungkung Kingdom At Kerta Gosa.

Bale Kerta Gosa 

Kerta Gosa is one of them. Part of the Klungkung Semarapura Kingdom complex which was not destroyed during the Dutch attack and was built by Ida I Dewa Agung Jambe in 1686. However, in 1908 this royal complex was attacked by the Dutch and left only three buildings, namely Medal Agung building as the gatedoor of the Kingdom of Klungkung, Bale Kambang or Taman Gili as a building surrounded by ponds and Bale Kerta Gosa. In the past, Bale Kerta Gosa was functioned as a place for discussion about security situations in Balinese Kingdom. This function cannot be separated from the meaning of the name. Kerta means prosperity and Gosa means a place of discussion. In addition, this building is functioned as a court and place of religious ceremonies such as Mapendes for the King's sons and daughters.

While visiting here, the 17th century Balinese architecture style was strongly felt in the Bale Kerta Gosa building. The beauty Bale Kambang building which was built in the middle of a lotus pond offers its own uniqueness. If you want to cross it, you have to pass the red brick bridge. When entering into Kerta Gosa and Bale Kambang, look up at the unique ceilings. This ceiling is decorated with puppet paintings depicting several cases that have been tried in the kingdom and many types of punishment received by the offender if proven guilty. There are also paintings of human reincarnation into the world as redeemers of the previous acts.

Beside to paintings, you can also admire the inheritance of the court at that time. One of them is a golden carved table completed with six chairs. The lion-bearing on the chair's arm is where Regen or the King sits as the presiding judge. The seat with the symbol of oxen is the seat of the Priest as a legal expert and king's advisor in making decisions. Dragon bearing seat is the seat of the Kanca as secretary of the court. Meanwhile the legal actors who will be tried, sit cross-legged on the floor.

If you want to enjoy more the relics of the Klungkung Kingdom, you can visit the museum which is still in a complex with Kerta Gosa. Located on Jl Kenanga No 11, Semarapura Kelod, Klungkung District, Klungkung Regency, this place is open every day at 08:00 Wita - 5:00 p.m. Around the area, there are parking lots, public toilets and gift shops.
