Warak Kruron, Ngelangkir, And Ngelungah: Series Of Ritual For The Deceased Babies
Warak Kruron, Ngelangkir, And Ngelungah: Series Of Ritual For The Deceased Babies.
There are hundreds of ceremonies in Bali, and each of them has their own specific reason. One of the most important ceremonies is a series of ritual for deceased babies. These ceremonies are rarely found in the communities. Because, the ritual is only done by the families who have a case of miscarriages, newborn death, and babies who died in the age less than 42 days.
The first ceremony is called Warak Kruron. In this ceremony, the baby that hasn’t been born, either because of a miscarriage or an abortion, will be returned to heaven. The local people believe that if the ritual isn’t carried out, the spirit of the baby will disturb the life of his father and mother. For example, the parents will be ill, get an accident, or have financial problems.
The second ceremony is Ngelangkir. This is ceremony is to placate the lost spirits of new born babies. The main procession of Ngelangkir is the family has to request a permission to Hyang Pitara and the ancestors in Sanggah Merajan. And the last, there is Ngelungah ceremony. Ngelungah is almost similar with Ngelangkir, but this ritual is for a baby who died in the age less than 42 days. These newborn babies are still considered pure and sacred. That’s the reason why, the ritual will be different from children or adult ceremonies. The objective of these ceremonies is to ensure a safe journey of the souls that failed to be reincarnated into the world. They will be sent back to their realm and await their next reincarnation.
This ceremony is usually held individually, and of course at a not-very-cheap cost. Thus, there’s an event to carry out this ritual collectively or in groups. By doing the ritual collectively, the cost will be divided equally. So it will be cheaper for the participants. If there’s a family who want to do this ritual, they can come to the nearest griya and register their data. After that, the best day of the ceremony will be chosen.
