The name of Tulamben comes from the local Balinese word, which means "many stones". It is a reference to the destructive eruption by Mount Agung that has affected this part of Bali. Tulamben Beach is not covered by sand, but is entirely covered by fairly large, and smooth stones.

This beach has a beautiful ambiance, filled with serenity, featured by the amazing underwater view. The underwater scenery can enchant every diver. There are beautiful and colorful corals, caused by the 1963 Mount Agung eruption.

It lies in the sea bottom near the beach, precisely in 30 meters below the water suface, and roughly 25 meters from the shore. We can reach it only with a short swim from the beach. The highest point of the wreck tops out about 5 meters from the surface. The ship has been torpedoed by the Japanese submarine in 1942 on the sea near Lombok Island. And then, it has been towed to Tulamben Beach on rescue operations.

Furthermore, the big eruption of Agung Mount in 1963 has destroyed most of the eastern side of Bali. The lava had been pushed into the water from the shore. Tulamben beach is located at Tulamben Village, Kubu district, Karangasem Regency, about 3 hour-drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport. Since it has been designated as one of the famous tourist destinations in Karangasem Bali, there are a lot of public facilities for the visitors. Such as parking area, hotels, restaurants, dive and snorkeling gear rentals, public toilet, also drink and food stalls.
