Remembering The Tragedy Of Bali At The Bali Bombing Monument.

Do you still remember the tragedy that occurred in Legian on October 12, 2002? A suicide bombing took place from an irresponsible party and killed so many lives. With the disaster, tourism in Bali was sluggish. Even many foreign tourists and locals are afraid to be around Legian and other areas in Bali. Well, to commemorate the disaster, a monument was built on Legian street.

Bali Bomb Monument

If you ever visited around Legian, you must have been through the Bali Bomb Monument. It is located at the end of the road that was once used as a discotheque. Now you can see how the tragedy of many years ago killed many lives. Both Indonesian citizens and foreigners grieve with each other deeply.

If you pass this monument, you can take time to stop by and pray for those who died when the incident took place. Ground Zero Monument is around 7 km from Ngurah Rai International Airport. The shape of this monument is like large gunungan in wayang. Gunungan is a symbol of the universe and its contents. At the bottom of the monument, there is a piece of inscription that lists all the dead and their nationalities in the tragedy.

There were around 202 fatalities from 22 countries, and about 324 victims of minor and serious injuries. The Ground Zero Monument also has another name for the Panca Benua Monument in the local language. The establishment of this monument is for positive inspiration for every human being to live in harmony and side by side. So there is no more discrimination or non-liking because of SARA (ethnicity, religion, race, and intergroup) issues.

On the left and right side of the monument, a flag pole can be used to fly a half-mast flag from another country whose citizens have been killed. This Ground Zero Monument location was once Paddy's Pub. But then Paddy's Pub shifted across the monument and changed its name to Paddy's Club. If you plan to visit this monument and come with flowers for the victims, you should come in the morning. Because the atmosphere of the traffic is still quiet and there are not many shops open.

The parking area is very difficult to find, as we know, Legian is a very crowded shopping area. So that many tourists choose to walk to enjoy the ambiance around. So, set your arrival time well!
