Witness The Exciting Tipat Bantal War.

There are so many traditions in Bali that will never be boring to be discussed. Each region certainly has rituals and beliefs that are often different from one another. Of the eight districts and one municipality in Bali, you can certainly be free to choose which local traditions will be followed. Like the tradition of the Tipat Bantal War conducted in Badung. This unique tradition only takes place once a year.

Tipat Bantal War

You must watch the Tipat Bantal War if you want to see exciting local events in Badung. It usually takes place around September-October every year, or the fourth month of the Balinese calendar. This tradition is carried out as a symbol of gratitude towards Sang Hyang Widhi for the gifts and welfare given throughout the year. So that the Balinese can reap the harvest.

Tipat Bantal War is also called the Aci Rah Penganggon. The name of this Tipat Bantal comes from its shape. "Tipat" means diamond in Balinese, made of glutinous rice and grated coconut which is put into a woven basket in the shape of a rectangle. While the "pillow" also has the same ingredients and composition as tipat. The difference is only in the wrapper. Because the pillow is elliptical like a rice cake.

It turns out that these two forms of Pillow Tip have meaning. The rectangular shape of the symbol symbolizes the feminine energy in the universe. While the oval-shaped pillow symbolizes the presence of masculine energy. This is a Hindu concept called Purusha-Predana.

This Tipat Bantal War takes place in front of the village temple ship, Badung. Initially, the community was gathered at the temple to pray, for the safety of the participants of the Tipat Bantal War. After that, the participants, consisting of men, began to take off their clothes. The group is divided into two opposite parts. When ready, each participant from the two sides stood facing each other against the opponent. Then the war began by throwing tips and cushions in each direction.

At times like this, usually, the atmosphere becomes noisy and crowded. Because the tipat and pillows can be thrown in any direction. It is also very likely that anyone will be hit by a tip and pillow from the opponent in the limb. Even the spectators who watched were not spared from throws and pillows. But because this war is a tradition, the pillow-throwing is done with joy. No anger and resentment were brought by the participants to other participants and the audience.

Do not forget to also capture this tradition in a photo, because it’s only done at certain times of the year. To enjoy the Tipat Bantal War properly, you can also wear traditional Balinese clothes. But remember, do not make noise during the prayer. Always keep a safe distance so you won’t get hit by a pillow tip. Don’t forget to check the calendar first to see the Tipat Bantal War schedule.
